Post Workout Banana Chocolate Smoothie

Whoa! I haven’t been here for a year! My previous job took all of my time, I was not cooking at all and was not inspired. Not good. Now I’m temporary free of toil and coming back to my old self. I’m getting back to my bodybuilding routine so I thought I’d post one of my yummy and healthy (well relatively healthy anyway) post-workout smoothies. This one is very good if you are heading back home after a weight session in gym, but need more energy to get going for the rest of the day.

Smoothies are healthier and more substantial than pure protein shakes and provide additional nutrition for recovery. There’s always a room for a twist¬† and they can be an excellent choice for breakfast, post-workout meal or a healthier meal replacement. Not to mention they are yummy!

This smoothie contains some essential fats and Iron from flaxseeds, but you can add an extra teaspoon of any EFA (essential fatty acids) mix of your choice. It also contains, Vitamin E, magnesium, potassium and fibre. I chose my USN whey protein, chocolate flavour, but any¬† chocolate or vanilla protein mix can be used here. I also used 2 scoops of protein, but 1 scoop is enough if it’s a breakfast or meal replacement.

Serves 1:

  • 1 banana, broken to pieces
  • 1 tbsp smooth peanut butter
  • 2 scoops of chocolate protein
  • 1/2 tsp ground flaxseeds
  • 1 tbsp oats
  • Mineral water – just enough to create desired consistency.

Throw all ingredients in your blender, blens, adding more water if nessesary. Serve immediately. Yum!
